Birmingham Metropolitan College

Creating a single IT infrastructure to support 1600 staff and more than 22,000 students

Customer
Birmingham Metropolitan College is home to 1600 staff and over 22,000 students, with an enviable reputation for being one of the most successful and popular colleges in Birmingham, attracting students from all over the West Midlands and overseas.

The vision of the college is to create a high quality further and higher education college in central and north Birmingham that will deliver outstanding learning opportunities for young people, adults and employers.

The Contract
Capita IT Services, as Birmingham Metropolitan College’s appointed ICT managed service provider, has united two previously separate colleges IT Systems (Sutton Coldfield College and Matthew Boulton College) to create one new single IT infrastructure to support its combined 1600 staff and more than 22,000 students.

Capita is also enhancing the current ICT service provision by providing a fully managed ICT service including a dedicated ICT Service Desk, offering technical support and advanced levels of first contact resolution. This will be supported by an on-site ICT service team providing desktop support and on-site project resources at the college’s main sites.

Benefits
The services delivered by Capita IT Services as part of the colleges managed ICT service will support the strategic aims of the college – to make ICT an integrated part of the education experience, whilst providing a faster, more robust, secure and future-proofed IT network for the newly merged college, providing total flexibility for students and staff, improved user experience and improved first contact resolution. This will allow for teachers to focus on their core activity to support students in reaching their full academic potential.

“Through our contract with Capita IT Services, a service will be developed that will not only support us through a period of significant change and development, but more crucially, will deliver a more flexible, modern learning environment for staff and students alike as we move forward”.
