Further and Higher Education

There have been some significant changes in recent times to both the education sector and with technology and how it is used. It has been widely acknowledged that learning environments have changed considerably as teaching methods have developed to embrace both the move towards a more personalised, learner-led experience and to maximise the potential of ICT.

Students are no longer restricted to purely traditional classroom environments - they are now able to work more flexibly, both in terms of the physical spaces at their school, college or university and the virtual worlds which they can access wherever and whenever they need. The 21st Century learning environment has become a very different place for both students and teachers alike.

In challenging economic times the role of technology is ever more crucial. There is a fundamental need to continually consider new and innovative methods of providing the technologically rich environments our young people demand, which is fundamental to the nations’ future prosperity. Schools, colleges and universities will be expected to achieve greater academic excellence and better social cohesion, whilst ensuring money is well spent to create maximum effect.
“Through our contract with Capita IT Services a service will be developed that will not only support us through a period of significant change and development but, more crucially, will deliver a more flexible, modern learning environment for staff and students alike. This project will make a significant contribution to the development of education, skills and future prosperity in Birmingham and the local area.”

Learning environments need to adopt a more flexible approach to deliver learner-led technology services whilst meeting enhanced needs in terms of:

  • Supporting students across varying ages and differing learning requirements
  • Compliance with additional requirements in the area of safeguarding and data protection
  • Engaging more successfully with parents and other stakeholders
  • Improving staff and student mobility as collaboration increases with work-based learning providers
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements imposed by central government and associated funding bodies

“We believe that Capita’s innovation and creativity will provide our new college campus with a totally flexible learning environment with a fully integrated infrastructure at its core to support our diverse and dynamic curriculum needs - both now and into the future. We expect our partnership with Capita to reduce our long term operational costs through energy saving, whilst providing students with the very latest technology in a stimulating and dynamic environment.”
