Capita awarded top ten place in Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index for FTSE 350 companies

11/10/2010

The Capita Group Plc (Capita) has been awarded an overall ranking of joint 6th place in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index, which is devised by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and comprises the FTSE 350 companies. The CDP represents 534 institutional investors with $64 trillion in assets under management, for its approach to climate change disclosure. Capita has also been awarded first place in the “Industrials” business sector.

The Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index is a key component of CDP’s annual FTSE 350 Report and highlights the constituent companies within the FTSE 350 Index which have displayed the most professional approach to corporate governance in respect of climate change disclosure practices. Companies are scored on their climate change disclosure and high scores indicate good internal data management and understanding of climate change related issues affecting the company.

The index, compiled by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) on behalf of CDP provides an evaluation tool for institutional investors. In 2010, it comprises 38 constituents of the FTSE 350 Index based on analysis of the responses to CDP’s 2010 questionnaire which focused on greenhouse gas emissions, emissions reduction targets and risks and opportunities associated with climate change.

Paul Pindar, Chief Executive of The Capita Group Plc, commented: “We recognise our responsibility and the benefits in identifying, managing and disclosing the social and environmental impacts of our operations and the services we deliver. To be commended by the Carbon Disclosure Project is a clear recognition of the clarity of our environmental practices and internal management processes. We are proud of our Group wide environmental programme and the contribution that our employees throughout Capita make every day towards reducing both our own and increasingly our clients’ carbon emissions through our outsourcing services. To appear in the top ten is an achievement which everyone cross Capita should be proud of.”

Paul Dickinson, Executive Chairman of the Carbon Disclosure Project, commented: “The Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index recognises companies that demonstrate good internal data management practices for understanding greenhouse gas emissions, including energy use. Companies that make this index have also demonstrated clear consideration of how climate change is and will impact their business. As companies’ understanding of climate change issues grows, they are better placed to take positive action to manage and mitigate its risks.”
