The Capita Group Plc signs Skills Pledge

30/01/2009

The Capita Group Plc announces that it has signed the government’s Skills Pledge. Since its 2007 launch, the Skills Pledge has helped thousands of companies get the skills they need to succeed. Through the scheme all kinds of training, from basic skills to the highest levels of expertise, can be accessed.

Simon Pilling, Chief Operating Officer of Capita, commented: “We take the professional development of our employees very seriously and we have made this pledge to further demonstrate our commitment. This additional training for our people will not only boost productivity for our business and support existing and new clients, but also help many employees realise their potential.”

Capita is particularly keen to provide support and encouragement to employees who would like to further improve literacy and numeracy skills and work towards their first Level 2 qualification in an area relevant to their role within the business.

Hilary Chadwick, Director of the Learning and Skills Council’s National Employer Service, which specialises in funding and supporting large companies such as Capita said: “I’m delighted that Capita has made a public commitment to training. It makes me confident that even in a tough business climate, large employers see the value of developing the skills of their people and in doing so are investing in their own future productivity.”

Skills Pledge
Officially launched by the Government on 14 June 2007, the aim of the Skills Pledge is to ensure all staff are skilled, competent, and able to fully contribute in the work place.

Led by the Learning and Skills Council, the Skills Pledge is a public commitment by an employer to invest in skills. Part of its role is to improve basic skills in literacy and numeracy - as well as helping employees work towards relevant qualifications to at least Level 2 (the equivalent of five good GCSEs). To date, more than 6,000 companies have made the Skills Pledge.
