Disaster recovery services

Our disaster recovery services provide you with a full spectrum of disaster recovery options to ensure your IT infrastructure remains operational, and you are able to conduct business following a disaster at the location of your servers, whether that location is your own site or the Capita data centre.

Hot standby: operational within an hour
We provide pre-built hardware at our disaster recovery data centre - running an active copy of your operating system and applications to the same specification as your live service. All servers in the disaster recovery data centre are active and available to support the service in the event of a disaster within one hour. Data is replicated between the primary and disaster recovery locations using either database or storage replication technologies. Tape backups are also taken and kept onsite and the data replicated to the disaster recovery site tape system to maintain an offsite set.

Warm standby: operational within 24 hours
We provide pre-built hardware at the disaster recovery data centre, to the same specification as the live service but with only database servers running active services. We use the same replication methods as hot standby. This enables all disaster recovery servers, other than the database servers, to be used for development, test and training environments. In the event of a disaster, the disaster recovery hardware is reverted to support the live application and can be running within 24 hours. Tape backups are also taken and kept onsite and the data replicated to the disaster recovery site tape system to maintain an offsite set.

Cold standby: secures your data
We provide space and connectivity (LAN, SAN, WAN) within our disaster recovery data centre, however do not provide pre-allocated hardware. Tape backups are taken and kept onsite and the data is replicated to the disaster recovery site tape system to maintain an offsite set. In the event of a disaster, replacement hardware is procured and the data is restored from the tape backup sets. Due to hardware purchasing lead times the service could take a number of weeks to be up and running, but the data will be secure.
